Happy Groundhog's Day
Groundhog Day is a delightful celebration of meteorological mischief! This whimsical tradition on February 2nd revolves around a rotund rodent, the groundhog, and its supposed knack for predicting the weather. "On average, Phil has gotten it right 30% of the time over the past 10 years," the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said in an update Friday. Those may not be the best odds but it's definitely a fun tradition.
Punxsutawney Phil is the honorary weather wizard of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. Legend has it that if Phil sees his shadow, winter will linger for six more weeks; if not, break out the flip-flops because spring is around the corner! Thousands flock to Phil's humble abode to witness this quirky spectacle, and the whole world tunes in to catch the forecast. Groundhog Day isn't just about Phil's predictions; it's a full-blown fiesta! Picture parades, catchy tunes, and enough food to fill a burrow. Participants, dressed to the nines in weather-themed accessories, come together to revel in the hilarity of it all.
This year Phil has predicted an early Spring. He did not see his shadow and many are hoping for an accurate prediction this year of warmer days to come.
