What is the Ridge to River Land Conservation Program?

It is a proposal for Highlands County to acquire ownership or easements to conserve natural and working lands*, protect drinking water, and support our rural economy. It might include restoring and protecting habitat to conserve wildlife, expanding urban forests, or designing parks and paths to improve community health.

A growing sentiment is that if the County does not protect the lands that could potentially generate these benefits for County residents, important lands will degrade and disappear forever due to development.
*It is important to note, land conservation projects that would be part of the Ridge to River program would only be willing-seller, voluntarily-negotiated, arm’s-length transactions that are based on market valuations of property.
